How to Buy from SSG.COM (Shinsegae) from Overseas (2026 Guide)

SSG.COM delivers only within South Korea, and much of what it is famous for, fresh groceries from Emart, cannot leave the country at all. The part that can travel is the department store side: beauty, fashion and packaged goods from Shinsegae. This guide explains how SSG.COM is organized, which sections matter to overseas buyers, what delivery and returns cost in won, and how to order when you have no Korean phone number or card.

What is SSG.COM and why do overseas shoppers want it?

SSG.COM is the online mall of Shinsegae Group, the company behind Shinsegae Department Store and the Emart hypermarket chain. Koreans read the three letters as 쓱 (sseuk), a word for something done in one smooth motion, and the name appears in all of its services.

The site is really several stores under one login. There is a 신세계백화점 (Shinsegae Department Store) section with the same brands as the physical stores. There is 이마트몰 (Emart Mall) for groceries and household goods, and a section for Traders, Emart's warehouse club. There are luxury boutiques, including official shops for Net-a-Porter and Mytheresa that opened in 2024. And there are ordinary marketplace sellers.

Inside Korea, SSG.COM is strongest in groceries. Orders are picked at more than a hundred Emart and Traders stores and delivered in time slots. In July 2026 it began a two-hour delivery pilot around two Seoul-area stores.

For shoppers abroad, the draw is different. SSG.COM is where you find department-store Korean beauty, such as premium skincare lines sold at counters, along with Shinsegae's own fashion labels and Emart's private brands like No Brand and Peacock. These are genuine retail-channel goods from the retailer itself, which matters to people worried about authenticity.

Can you buy from SSG.COM directly from overseas?

No, for four reasons.

Delivery. SSG.COM's delivery types are all domestic: store-based grocery delivery, dawn delivery and courier parcels to Korean addresses.

Sign-up. SSG.COM's sign-up page says individual members join after 본인인증 (bon-in injeung, identity verification) or verification through a social login. Identity verification in Korea runs through a Korean mobile number.

Payment. A 2026 comparison of Korean shopping sites for foreigners lists SSG.COM as Korean interface and Korean cards only. Its own wallet, SSG Pay, is also set up through Korean identity verification.

Product type. Even with a Korean address, chilled and fresh groceries arrive in a delivery slot at a home. They are not parcels that can be forwarded.

Is there an SSG global site?

Not a standalone one. In April 2022, SSG.COM started selling to international shoppers through Gmarket Global, the English and Chinese site run by its sister company. The launch covered fashion, beauty and processed food for buyers in more than 80 countries, with one shipping fee for items from several sellers.

So check Gmarket Global first. If the SSG item you want is listed there and ships to your country, you can buy it yourself with an international card or PayPal. Three ways to buy from SSG.COM when you live abroad

1. Buy directly on Gmarket Global (if the item is there)

The simplest route when it works. The range is limited and duties are paid by the recipient.

2. Order on SSG.COM and use a forwarding address

This needs a verified SSG.COM account and a Korean card. A forwarder gives you a Korean warehouse address for courier-delivered items. Grocery slots cannot be sent to a warehouse.

3. Use a purchasing agent such as HaulKorea

You send the SSG.COM product link. HaulKorea buys it, receives it in Korea, photographs it and ships it to you. You need no account, no Korean number and no Korean card.

How to order from SSG.COM with HaulKorea, step by step

1. Find the product on ssg.com. Use the department store tab for beauty and fashion. Browser translation works for menus, less so for image-based descriptions.
2. Check the delivery type. Look for 택배 (taekbae, courier parcel). Items marked for store delivery slots or dawn delivery are groceries meant for homes and usually cannot be exported.
3. Copy the product link. It contains "itemId=" and a number. Copy the full address. 4.5. Choose your country.
4. Review the total. It covers the product, Korean shipping, the service fee and international shipping.7. Pay once with PayPal. If the parcel is lighter than estimated, the shipping difference is refunded. No second payment is requested.
5. Get inspection photos and a tracking number.

What SSG.COM costs before international shipping

Costs depend on which part of SSG.COM the item comes from.

SSG Delivery (쓱배송). This is the Emart-based grocery service. Since a March 2025 rebrand it covers daytime delivery, dawn delivery and Traders delivery. Shipping is free on orders of ₩40,000 or more and ₩3,000 below that. Dawn orders placed late in the evening arrive early the next morning in the Seoul area and several other regions. This is the service most Korean customers mean when they say SSG, and it is the one that matters least to you.

SSG 7 Club. Launched on January 7, 2026, this membership costs ₩2,900 a month and returns 7 percent of SSG Delivery spending as SSG Money, capped at ₩50,000 a month. It is useful for residents buying groceries and irrelevant to export orders.

Courier items. SSG.COM's help center lists the fees, as of October 2026. Shinsegae Department Store parcels are free from ₩30,000 and ₩3,000 below that. Emart parcels follow the same rule. Traders parcels are free from ₩90,000 and ₩4,000 below. Star Delivery parcels are free from ₩40,000 and ₩3,000 below, and a late Star Delivery parcel earns ₩1,000 in SSG Money. Partner sellers set their own fees, charged per seller.

Quick delivery. 바로퀵 (Baro Quick) is an immediate delivery option with a ₩3,000 fee, limited to areas near participating stores. The department store also has a quick-courier option in Seoul, at ₩7,000 for orders of ₩100,000 or more and ₩12,000 below that.

What to buy on SSG.COM

Typical listing ranges as of October 2026:

• Department-store Korean skincare, roughly ₩50,000 to ₩300,000. Premium lines sold at Shinsegae counters, often as sets with deluxe samples.
• Counter makeup and cushions, roughly ₩35,000 to ₩80,000. Shades and limited packaging that do not reach overseas retailers.
• Shinsegae fashion labels, roughly ₩30,000 to ₩200,000. In-house and partner brands carried by the department store.
• Emart private-label packaged goods, roughly ₩1,000 to ₩15,000. No Brand snacks and Peacock pantry items, shelf-stable only. Ask us before ordering food.
• Korean tea and gift sets, roughly ₩20,000 to ₩100,000. Department store gift packaging is a specialty, especially before Chuseok and Lunar New Year.
• Home and kitchen goods, roughly ₩10,000 to ₩150,000. Tableware and bedding from the department store's living floor.
• Kids' fashion, roughly ₩20,000 to ₩100,000. Department store children's brands with full size runs.

For lower-priced drugstore beauty and bulk snacks, Coupang is usually the better source.

Things that go wrong on SSG.COM orders (and how to avoid them)

Choosing a grocery item. The most common mistake. If the listing offers a delivery time slot instead of a courier, it is a store-delivered grocery. Fresh, chilled and frozen food cannot be shipped abroad.

Alcohol and medicine. SSG.COM lists wine pickup and health products. Alcohol and medicines are not items we can promise to handle. Luxury boutique items. Products in the Net-a-Porter and Mytheresa shops are imported into Korea from abroad. Buying them through Korea adds cost. Order those from the boutique's own international site.

Gift-with-purchase running out. Department store beauty sets advertise bonus items "while stocks last." The gift may be gone by purchase time. Tell us whether you still want the order without it.

Card-specific discounts. Prices often show a discount for a particular Korean credit card. That price is not available to every buyer. A quote uses the price actually payable.

Fragrance and aerosols. Perfume, hair spray and nail products face air-shipping limits. Ask before ordering.

Pre-holiday delays. Before Chuseok and Lunar New Year, department store gift sets sell out and couriers slow down.

Returns, sizing and customs

SSG.COM's return rules

The standard window for a change-of-mind return or exchange is 7 days from delivery, in line with Korean e-commerce law. The buyer pays return shipping unless the item is defective or not as described.

In December 2023, SSG.COM announced a longer 30-day window for items sold through its SSG 1DAY courier service, covering packaged food, daily necessities, baby and pet goods, and beauty and lifestyle products. Service names have changed since, so confirm the window on the product page.

What changes when an agent buys for you

The return period begins at delivery in Korea. HaulKorea sends inspection photos when the parcel arrives, so a wrong shade or damaged box can be handled inside that period. Sizing

Department store fashion uses Korean numeric sizes, such as 55 and 66 for women's wear and 95, 100 and 105 for tops. These do not map neatly onto US or EU sizes. Use the centimeter measurements on the product page.

Customs

Every country has its own duty rules. Outside the United States, duties and taxes are not included in a HaulKorea quote and the recipient pays them on arrival. Higher-priced department store goods are more likely to be assessed.

For the United States, the $800 duty-free allowance was suspended for all countries on August 29, 2025. HaulKorea quotes to US addresses include duties, so nothing is due at delivery.

No. SSG.COM delivers within Korea. Some SSG products have been sold to overseas buyers through Gmarket Global since 2022, so look there first.

Can I order Emart groceries from abroad?

Not fresh, chilled or frozen items. Shelf-stable packaged goods may be possible depending on your country's food import rules. Ask us before you order.

Does SSG.COM accept foreign credit cards?
