How to Buy from Coupang from Overseas (2026 Guide)

Coupang does not deliver outside South Korea, and its sign-up asks for a Korean mobile number, so most overseas shoppers cannot check out on their own. You can still get Coupang products abroad through a forwarding address or a purchasing agent. This guide covers exactly where the Korean site stops you, what Coupang charges for shipping and returns in won, what is worth buying there, and how the three workarounds compare.

What is Coupang and why do overseas shoppers want it?

Coupang (쿠팡) is the largest online retailer in South Korea. People compare it to Amazon, and the comparison holds in one important way: Coupang owns much of its inventory and runs its own delivery network instead of relying only on third-party sellers.

That network is called 로켓배송 (Rocket Delivery). Order before midnight and the box usually arrives the next day. This is why Coupang is the default shop for Korean households, and why prices on everyday goods are hard to beat.

For someone abroad, the appeal is range and price. Sheet masks by the box, multi-packs of ramyeon, Korean stationery, kitchen tools, phone accessories and drugstore skincare all sit in one cart, often at lower prices than export-focused shops charge. Coupang also sells bulk bundles that Korean brands do not offer on their global stores.

There is one more reason. Many Korean brands treat Coupang as their main channel, so new versions and limited bundles show up there first.

Can you buy from Coupang directly from overseas?

In most cases, no. Three things get in the way, and they stack.

Sign-up. Coupang's sign-up form has five fields: email, password, password confirmation, name and mobile number, followed by a verification code sent by text. Korean sites call this family of checks 본인인증 (bon-in injeung, identity verification). A Korean business newspaper described the experience of overseas Koreans who get stuck at this exact step because they no longer have a local number. Without the number, there is no account.

Payment. Foreign Visa and Mastercard payments are reported to work on some orders and fail on others. Korean debit and credit cards are the reliable option. Guides for foreign residents note that the cardholder name has to match the account name, and that a name mismatch is a common reason for a declined payment. Korean wallet apps do not solve this, because they only accept cards issued in Korea.

Delivery address. This is the real wall. The sign-up page itself carries the line that Coupang provides its service only within Korea, and checkout expects a Korean address. Coupang does have an overseas business: it launched Rocket Delivery in Taiwan in October 2022 and has kept expanding there. But that is a separate store for Taiwan residents, not an international shipping option on the Korean site.

So even if you solve sign-up and payment, your order still has to land somewhere in Korea first.

Is there a Coupang Global site?

There is no English-language Coupang storefront that ships worldwide from Korea. The English mode in the app helps residents and visitors browse, but it does not change where Coupang delivers.

If you live in Taiwan, check the local Coupang app first. You may not need anyone's help.

Three ways to buy from Coupang when you live abroad

1. Buy directly (only if you have Korean credentials)

This works if you kept a Korean phone number and a Korean card, for example after studying or working in Korea. You still need a Korean address to receive the box, so this route always ends in option 2.

2. Use a package forwarding address

A forwarding company gives you a Korean warehouse address. You place the Coupang order yourself, ship it to that address, and the company sends it abroad.

The catch is that forwarding does nothing about sign-up or payment. If you cannot create a Coupang account, you cannot use this route. It suits people who already shop on Coupang and only need the last leg.

3. Use a purchasing agent such as HaulKorea

A purchasing agent buys the item for you. You send the product link, the agent pays the store, receives the parcel in Korea and ships it to you. You do not need a Coupang account, a Korean phone number or a Korean card.

A purchasing agent costs more than doing it yourself with a working account. If you already have that account and a card that goes through, forwarding is the cheaper choice. If sign-up is where you stopped, an agent is the practical one.

How to order from Coupang with HaulKorea, step by step

1. Find the product on Coupang. Browse coupang.com in your browser. Translation tools handle the listing pages well enough to compare options.
2. Copy the product address. Use the full URL from the address bar. If the listing has options (size, color, pack count), note the one you want, because Coupang often puts very different prices behind one listing.
3. **Paste it into the HaulKorea quote form.4. Choose your country. The destination decides the shipping method and whether duties are included.
4. Review the total. HaulKorea shows one figure that includes the product, Korean domestic shipping, the service fee and international shipping. Rates are listed on the pricing page.
5. Pay once with PayPal. There is no second payment later. If the parcel weighs less than estimated, the shipping difference is refunded.

Coupang's own costs are simple once you know which of two delivery types an item uses.

Rocket Delivery items are sold and shipped by Coupang. For a regular (non-WOW) account, shipping is free when the order total reaches ₩19,800. Coupang changed the rule so that the total after coupons and discounts has to clear ₩19,800, not the pre-discount amount. WOW members pay ₩7,890 a month and get free Rocket shipping with no minimum.

Seller-shipped items come from marketplace sellers. Each seller sets a fee, and many set a free-shipping threshold of their own. The fee is shown on the product page under the price.

A practical tip: a ₩6,000 item with a shipping fee can cost more than a ₩9,000 Rocket item that rides along with the rest of your cart. Look at the delivery badge before the price.

• Sheet mask boxes (10 to 30 sheets), roughly ₩8,000 to ₩25,000. Brands sell bulk boxes on Coupang that are sold singly elsewhere.
• Sunscreen and drugstore skincare, roughly ₩10,000 to ₩25,000. One-plus-one bundles are common and often beat the brand's own store.
• Ramyeon multi-packs and snack boxes, roughly ₩4,000 to ₩20,000. Shelf-stable food is the classic Coupang haul. Check your country's food import rules first.
• Korean stationery and planners, roughly ₩2,000 to ₩15,000. Light, small and cheap to ship.

Things that go wrong on Coupang orders (and how to avoid them)

The option you wanted sells out. Rocket stock moves fast and sells out by option. Tell us a second choice when you request a quote, or say that we should cancel if the first choice is gone.

The price changes between quote and purchase. Coupang reprices constantly, and some discounts only apply to WOW members or to a specific card. A quote is based on the price at the time it is made.

Same product, different sellers. One product page can list several sellers at different prices and delivery types. The link you send may open on a different seller for us. Mention the price you saw.

Rocket Fresh is not an option. 로켓프레시 (Rocket Fresh) is Coupang's chilled grocery service. Fresh and refrigerated food cannot be shipped internationally.

Restricted items. Aerosol sprays, perfume, nail polish and anything with a lithium battery face air-shipping limits. Some can go by specific carriers, others cannot go at all. Voltage. Korean appliances run on 220V. A hair tool or rice cooker bought for a 110V country needs a transformer, and heating appliances often do not cope well with one.

Returns, sizing and customs

Coupang's return rules

Coupang's own cancel and return page gives two windows. For a change of mind, request the return within 7 days of receiving the item. For a defective or wrongly delivered item, the window is three months from receipt, or 30 days from when you found the problem.

The same page says who pays. For a change of mind, the customer pays shipping both ways, including the original delivery fee. For a defect or a wrong delivery, the customer pays nothing. Korean news reports add that WOW members can return Rocket Delivery items free of charge for 30 days. That is a membership benefit, not the general rule.

What changes when an agent buys for you

Those windows start when the parcel is delivered in Korea, not when it reaches you. Once a box has left Korea, sending it back for a change of mind rarely makes sense, because international return postage usually exceeds the item's value.

Sizing

Korean clothing often comes in a single "free" size or runs small. Coupang listings usually include a measurement table in centimeters. Compare it with a garment you own instead of trusting S, M and L labels.

Customs

Duties depend on your country, and the rules differ widely. Outside the United States, duties and taxes are not included in a HaulKorea quote and are paid by the recipient on arrival.

For the United States, the long-standing $800 duty-free allowance was suspended for all countries on August 29, 2025, so low-value parcels are no longer exempt. HaulKorea quotes to the US include duties in the price, and you pay nothing at the door.
