How to Buy from Gmarket Korea from Overseas (2026 Guide)

Gmarket is the one large Korean marketplace with an official international version. Gmarket Global is in English, accepts foreign payment methods and ships abroad, so start there. You only need outside help when the item is listed solely on the Korean site, when the seller has not enabled overseas shipping, or when your country is not served. This guide explains the difference between the two sites, when each one makes sense, and how to order from the Korean site if you have to.

What is Gmarket and why do overseas shoppers want it?

Gmarket (지마켓) is one of Korea's oldest open marketplaces. Thousands of independent sellers list products, and Gmarket provides the storefront, payment and customer protection. It is not a single retailer with one warehouse.

Ownership has changed several times. It was part of eBay Korea, then Shinsegae Group bought it. In 2025 Korean regulators approved a joint venture between Shinsegae and Alibaba, and Gmarket began selling through Lazada in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.

Inside Korea, Gmarket competes on fast delivery through 스타배송 (Star Delivery). It launched in September 2024 with the courier CJ Logistics and promises a set arrival date, with ₩1,000 in store credit if a parcel is late.

Shoppers abroad know Gmarket for a different reason. It was the first big Korean mall to build an English site for foreigners, back in 2006. For years it was the default answer to "where can I order Korean things online from another country."

Gmarket Global vs Gmarket Korea: which one should you use?

This is the question to settle before anything else.

Gmarket Global lives at global.gmarket.co.kr. It is available in English and Chinese, and the header reads "Worldwide shipping available." You pay with an international card or PayPal, and the parcel is sent abroad by a carrier you choose at checkout.

Gmarket Korea lives at gmarket.co.kr. It is in Korean, aimed at buyers in Korea, and delivers to Korean addresses.

	Gmarket Global	Gmarket Korea
Language	English, Chinese	Korean
Payment	International cards, PayPal	Korean cards and Korean payment methods
Delivery	Overseas, where the seller allows it	Korean addresses
Selection	Smaller. Only items whose sellers enabled overseas shipping are orderable	Full catalog
Promotions	Global-site coupons	Korean coupons, member deals, Star Delivery
Duties	Recipient pays	Not applicable

How shipping works on Gmarket Global

Gmarket's shipping page lists four services. "Gmarket Global Shipping" is a partner service whose description names nine areas: Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, East and West Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. Its fee calculator, as of October 2026, also offers the United States and Kazakhstan as destinations. EMS lists 30 destinations, among them Canada, Japan, China, Brazil, Mexico and several European countries, but not the United States. SF Express covers Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Taiwan. DHL is the remaining carrier option.

Fees are charged by weight in half-kilogram steps up to 30 kg and are shown in won. The page says fees and country lists can change without notice, and that delivery depends on the seller and the product.

One line matters most: the buyer pays all duties, taxes and customs charges.

When you do not need a purchasing agent

Use Gmarket Global on your own if all three are true:

• The item appears on the global site and can be added to the cart.
• Your country shows up as a delivery option at checkout.
• You are comfortable paying duties to the carrier on arrival.

In that case, ordering direct is simpler and you should not pay anyone a service fee.

When the Korean site is the only way

• The product exists on gmarket.co.kr but not on the global site.
• The seller has not turned on overseas shipping.
• Your country is not on the list for that item.
• The Korean listing has a deal or a bundle the global site does not show.
• You want items from Gmarket and other Korean stores in one box.

Can you buy from the Korean Gmarket site directly?

It is hard from abroad. The Korean site expects a Korean-issued card or a Korean payment method such as Smile Cash, and guides for foreigners report that foreign cards are not accepted there. Gmarket's sign-up page offers two buyer types, individual and business, and sign-up on Korean marketplaces normally involves 본인인증 (bon-in injeung, identity verification) through a Korean mobile number. And the delivery form takes a Korean address.

So the Korean site has the same three walls as other Korean malls: account, payment and address.

Three ways to buy from Gmarket

1. Gmarket Global, directly

The first choice when it works. See the checklist above.

2. Korean Gmarket plus a forwarding address

If you already have a Korean Gmarket account and a Korean card, order to a forwarder's Korean warehouse address and have it sent on. Forwarding does not help if you cannot check out.

3. Korean Gmarket through a purchasing agent such as HaulKorea

You send the gmarket.co.kr link. HaulKorea buys the item, receives it in Korea and ships it to you. You need no account, no Korean number and no Korean card.

Gmarket Global direct	Korean site + forwarding	Korean site via HaulKorea
Account	Global account	Korean account	None
Korean phone number	No	Usually yes	No
Payment	International card or PayPal	Korean card	PayPal
Catalog	Overseas-enabled items only	Full	Full
International shipping	Chosen at checkout, by weight	Paid to forwarder after weighing	In one total, paid once
US duties	Recipient pays	Recipient pays	Included in the price
Inspection photos	No	Depends on the service	Yes
Best for	Items listed on the global site	People with Korean credentials	Korea-only listings, mixed-store hauls

How to order from Korean Gmarket with HaulKorea, step by step

1. Check Gmarket Global first. Search the product name there. If it is listed and ships to you, you may not need us.
2. Copy the Korean product link. It starts with item.gmarket.co.kr. Send the full address.
3. Note the option. Gmarket listings often pack many variants into one page, with a price added or subtracted per option. Tell us which one, or attach a screenshot. 4.5. Select your country.
4. Review the total. It includes the item, the seller's Korean shipping fee, the service fee and international shipping.7. Pay once with PayPal. If the parcel weighs less than estimated, the shipping difference comes back to you. There is no extra charge later.
5. Get inspection photos and tracking. Photos come when the parcel reaches the warehouse, tracking when it ships.

What Gmarket costs before international shipping

On the Korean site, shipping depends on who delivers.

Seller-shipped items. Each seller sets a courier fee and often a free-shipping threshold. Both are shown under the price. Items from different sellers are charged separately. In search results we checked in October 2026, the fee was ₩2,500 or ₩3,000 on most listings, and some shipped free.

Star Delivery items. These are stocked for next-day arrival. When the service launched, orders placed before 8 p.m. on weekdays arrived the next day. Gmarket's paid membership, 꼭 (Kkok), adds free change-of-mind returns on Star Delivery items, up to three times a month.

On Gmarket Global, add the international fee by weight and expect duties at the door.

Prices in this guide are in won, as of October 2026.

What to buy on Gmarket

Typical listing ranges as of October 2026:

• K-pop albums and official goods. Single albums from one girl group's catalog were listed at ₩14,100 to ₩25,920 in October 2026, and multi-version sets at ₩58,600 to ₩84,600. Agency-run shops sell here directly.
• Beauty sets from department-store brands, roughly ₩30,000 to ₩150,000. Official brand shops run coupon events during Gmarket's big sales.
• Korean snacks and instant food in bulk. A 20-pack of Shin Ramyun was ₩15,560 to ₩16,330 with free shipping in October 2026. Shelf-stable only. Check your country's food rules.
• Small home appliances, roughly ₩30,000 to ₩200,000. Remember that Korea uses 220V.
• Fashion basics and socks, roughly ₩5,000 to ₩40,000. Multi-packs at wholesale-like prices.
• Character goods and toys, roughly ₩5,000 to ₩60,000. Korean character merchandise that is not exported.
• Health and personal care items, roughly ₩10,000 to ₩50,000. Ask us before ordering supplements, since rules vary by country.

Department-store goods from Shinsegae are also sold through SSG.COM, and everyday bulk items are often cheaper on Coupang.

Things that go wrong on Gmarket orders (and how to avoid them)

The cheapest price is a different option. Gmarket listing titles show the lowest option price. The item in the photo may cost more. Always name the option.

Coupon prices are account-specific. The price you see after coupons may depend on membership or a first-order discount. A quote uses the price available at purchase time.

Overseas shipping greyed out. On the global site, some items show as unavailable for your country. That is a seller setting, and it is the main reason people turn to the Korean site.

Albums and pre-orders. New releases ship on the release date, not the order date. Pre-order benefits are limited in quantity.

Restricted goods. Batteries, aerosols, perfume and nail polish face air-shipping limits. Heavy items. Gmarket Global caps a shipment at 30 kg, and carriers have size limits that differ by country. Bulky items can cost more to ship than to buy.

Returns, sizing and customs

Returns

On the Korean site, a change-of-mind return must be requested within 7 days of delivery, as Korean e-commerce law provides. The buyer pays return shipping unless the item is defective or not as described.

When an agent buys for you, that clock runs from delivery in Korea. HaulKorea sends inspection photos on arrival so that a wrong or damaged item can be dealt with inside the window. Once a parcel has left Korea, change-of-mind returns are rarely practical. Our refund policy covers each case.

If you order from Gmarket Global directly, returns go through Gmarket's own process, and international return postage is something to check before you buy.

Sizing

Marketplace sellers use their own size charts. Look for the measurement table in centimeters inside the product description, which is usually an image. Shoe sizes are in millimeters: 250 means a 25 cm foot length.

Customs

On Gmarket Global, duties and taxes are the recipient's responsibility in every country.

With HaulKorea, the same applies to all destinations except the United States. The US suspended its $800 duty-free allowance for all countries on August 29, 2025. HaulKorea quotes to the US include duties, and nothing is collected at delivery.

FAQ

Is Gmarket Global the same as Gmarket Korea?

They share sellers and listings, but they are separate storefronts. The global site shows prices and checkout in a form foreigners can use and only lets you order items with overseas shipping enabled. The Korean site has the full catalog and Korean promotions.

Does Gmarket ship to the USA?

The United States appears as a destination in the fee calculator for Gmarket Global Shipping, though not in the EMS list. Whether a given item can go there still depends on the seller. Add the item to the cart and check at checkout. If it will not ship, the Korean site with an agent is the alternative.

Can I pay on Gmarket with PayPal?

On Gmarket Global, yes, along with major international cards. PayPal is not a payment option on the Korean site.

Why can't I find a product on Gmarket Global that I saw on the Korean site?

The seller may not have enabled overseas sales, or the item may be restricted for export. Searching the global site also returns fewer results than the Korean one.

Do I need a Korean phone number for Gmarket?

Not for Gmarket Global. For the Korean site, Korean verification is normally part of sign-up and payment.

Who pays customs on a Gmarket Global order?

You do. Gmarket's shipping terms say the recipient bears duties, taxes and clearance charges.

How long does a Gmarket order take?

On the global site, it depends on the carrier you choose. Through HaulKorea, the Korean leg takes a few days and the international leg depends on your country.

Check the global site, then send us what it will not ship

Search Gmarket Global first. If your item is not there, or it will not ship to your country, paste the Korean Gmarket link into the quote form and see the full cost before you pay.
